If this is an emergency
This site is not monitored for emergencies. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. If someone is in a mental health or suicidal crisis in the United States, call or text 988. If you are outside the United States, use your local emergency number.
This is education, not advice
SpecialNeeds.org helps you understand your options and find real organizations, programs and providers. It does not tell you what is right for your child, and it cannot know your situation.
- We do not diagnose, screen, assess, treat or provide therapy.
- We do not give medical, mental-health, behavioral, educational, legal, insurance, tax or financial advice.
- We do not determine eligibility for any waiver, scholarship, grant, benefit or insurance program.
- Reading this site does not create a clinician-client or attorney-client relationship.
Please talk to a qualified professional
Decisions about your child's health, therapy, medication, education plan, legal rights or money should be made with a licensed professional who knows your family.
Never delay seeking care, and never stop or change a treatment, because of something you read here.
Accuracy, freshness and AI assistance
We use AI-assisted research and review tools to help find, organize, cross-check and update information, and people decide what gets published. Both people and AI can be wrong.
Program rules, waitlists, funding amounts, deadlines, addresses, insurance participation and availability change often. Always confirm details directly with the organization, provider or agency before you rely on them.
Where a page shows a source and a date checked, that tells you what we saw and when. It is not a guarantee that it is still true today.
Listings are not endorsements
Being listed here is not a recommendation, certification or guarantee of quality, safety, licensure or results. Not being listed usually means we have not researched it yet.
For complementary, holistic and wellness services we describe what a provider says they offer and keep that separate from any claim about whether it works. We do not restate a provider's effectiveness claims as fact, and we do not hide these providers either — families deserve to know what exists and to decide for themselves with their clinician.
Three kinds of knowledge, labeled
We separate official information (what an agency or program says), professional expertise (what a qualified clinician or specialist contributes), and lived experience (what families report). Each is valuable, and none borrows the authority of another. A parent's experience is real and is not a clinical recommendation.
Tell us when we are wrong
If something here is inaccurate, out of date or misleading, tell us and we will fix it. Email help@specialneeds.org or use the correction link on any page. We would rather be corrected than be trusted incorrectly.
