Your Privacy Choices

The short version

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use third-party ad trackers on this site, so there is no advertising opt-out to give you.

All of this site works with no account at all — public accounts do not exist yet, and sign-in is for our editorial staff only. If you never give us an email address or ZIP code, there is nothing about you to manage.

Email topics, frequency and pausing

Email signup is open, but automated sending has not launched: no newsletter, alert or educational email has been sent from this site yet. Nothing will be sent until the sending system includes a preference link and an unsubscribe link in every message, from which you will be able to:

• change which conditions, topics and resource types you hear about
• change your state or ZIP code, or remove it
• change how often we email you
• pause everything for a while without unsubscribing
• unsubscribe completely, in one click

Until then — and afterward, if you prefer — you can email us to change your topics or be removed entirely. Removal is honored without questions. We keep only a minimal suppression record, including a one-way hash of your address, so you are not added back by mistake.

Settings stored on your device

Your accessibility settings, saved resources, checklist progress and dashboard layout live in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser's site data for SpecialNeeds.org removes them, and there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Access, correction and deletion

Email help@specialneeds.org and tell us what you want. Useful subject lines: "Access request", "Correction request", "Deletion request".

• Access: we tell you what we hold about you and who processes it.
• Correction: we fix inaccurate information about you.
• Deletion: we delete what we can, and tell you plainly what we must keep and why.
• Staff account closure, if you have one: we close the account and remove the profile information tied to it.
• Remove a submission: we take down something you contributed.

Please write from the address you used with us, or give us enough detail to find your record. We may need to verify the request is really from you before we act on it.

How long it takes

We aim to acknowledge within a few business days and to complete a request within 30 days. If a request is complex we will tell you and give you a realistic timeline. If we cannot do all of it, we will say what we did and what we did not do.

What we may keep

• records we need for security and abuse prevention
• consent and suppression records, so we can show what you agreed to and keep you off the list once you ask
• published editorial records and their sourcing, which are part of the public information trail
• anything the law requires us to retain

Aggregate, non-identifying counts that no longer relate to any individual may remain in our research statistics.

Authorized agents and state privacy rights

You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you. We will ask for proof that you gave them permission.

Some states give residents specific privacy rights, such as the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or targeted advertising. We handle every request the same way, regardless of where you live, and we do not treat anyone differently for exercising a privacy right.

If you believe we have not handled your request properly, reply to us first and a person will look again. You may also contact your state attorney general or privacy regulator.
